Okay, so when I see that you post an essay, at first, I'm like, "Lovely, can't wait to read." And then I do, I probably tear up, and then I tell myself not to comment because I often do, and fear that you'll be like, "Jeez, this girl again, is she like my Substack groupie?" (lol).
But then you publish something so unbelievably beautiful and relevant to my life. Truly this hits, as I sit in my new apartment I moved into a week and a half ago, happy yet immersed with such intense anxiety that I am now a capital A Adult and yet don't have nearly the confidence I always imagined that entails—while feeling strangely guilty for asking my brother to build my nightstand and asking a friend for a ride to get my car fixed. What a timely and elegant reminder of the knocks we can give and receive.
Anyway. Great writing has truth, and yours is brimming with it.
Thank you so much, Kate. Honestly comments like this are so rewarding for me to read. One of the points of writing, at least in my view, is to connect yourself with other hearts and minds. I am glad this resonated with you and thank you for taking the time to let me know.
Really looking forward to the book, Catherine. Glad to have helped you find the space to write it (with my sub I mean), but man - you have given ME so much more through the years I've been reading you. You taught me how to think. Thank you endlessly and forever.
